    Default Nissan

I am purchasing a new to me truck in the next month. I have come across a Nissan Frontier, 4x4, low milage for the age of the vehicle, a 2008 with 76k. The biggest complaint I can find with some digging is somewhat shitty fuel economy for a mid-size truck.

Basically, who has had one and are they worth as much of a shit as the consumer reports say they are? I realize a Toyota is probably "better" but damn paying what they are asking for a yota...

I know somebody on here has to drive one, or has driven one.

    Thanks...

Radiator mixing with trans fluid, and cam phaser locators wearing out is all I've ever seen.

I am assuming there is some kind of failure in the radiator that causes the two to mix, and then contaminates the ATF, thus needing a rebuild I assume? Thanks for the speedy response.

Yes you are correct. I'd at least put a new rad in it to know it's done and ride out

Yessir, that sounds a lot better than rebuilding a transmission. Thanks for your time.

There is a bypass mod for the radiator. Bub will be along shortly to elaborate.

I have a 2009 I bought brand new in 2008. Other than regular maintenance, I've never had a bit of trouble out of mine and I'm about to turn 200,000.

Timing chain guides fail and chain rubs a hole into timing cover and it can mix oil and coolant if not caught soon enough.

Yeah, that could pose a problem I suppose haha. How often do you see them?

Only 2. One truck and one infinity coupe G35. Apparently it's a 3.5 issue.

Do the radiator/trans cooler bypass mod and drive it like you stole it!

Gotcha. All of the ones I have been glancing at have the 4.0 V6. Thanks for your info and time.

    I'm leaning towards it.

4runners have same issue with trans cooler tank leaking. My bypassed with b&m trans cooler was still kicking ass at 315k when I sold it. Never touched the tranny/filter or fluid either cause I'm a lazy sob. Best vehicle I have ever owned.

    The 4Runner or a Frontier?
