    Default Stamped Asphalt

I'm wanting to widen and pave our drive. I want it roughly 18'x100' and I'm looking at stamped asphalt. Give me a ballpark on price on stamping it to look like bricks with a border.

Do you feel it would be cheaper to have it done this time of year, due to them maybe being slow?

Also if you have any pics, post them up.

    Thanks

Stamped asphalt is always a bad idea.

Good luck getting someone in rock hill to do a good job. I don't ever recall of hearing of anyone doing it. Pave it and roll on. Don't get fancy, no offense but I don't think you'll get a good ROI if when you ever decide to sell. Not everyone would appreciate the look

I bid a project last year that had stamped asphalt on it and I was quoted $11 per sf, in the Raleigh area. With your measurements, that would be a $20k driveway (not including a border). As stated above, I don't see you getting a good ROI for it, but it's up to you.

ETA: That's just the cost of the stamping. You'd still have to pay someone to pave the driveway.

Mt Pleasant has a board member who owns an asphalt stamping company...so guess what shows up in civil residential plan sets? The product is bad enough on its own, but the fact that its being forced on developers puts me over the top. I usually leave it out of my bids on purpose. I make them to ask for it. I want them to acknowledge the conflict of interest and the crappy product they're being coerced into using. And then I bid it high enough to bring someone from Charlotte to do the work. I absolutely will not allow that guy on one of our jobsites. But that's a secondary local problem. The product itself is garbage and it looks tacky.

Asphalt ablates, which is a fancy word for wears away. And so, over time and traffic, you lose the texture and the color. If you have very little traffic, it will last a while. But anywhere that tires continually apply friction to the surface, it will wear away.

I'm sure you're aware parking a car on hot asphalt is going to leave indentions.

Thanks for the replys. It sounds like a wonderful product, so I'll pass... Does the regular asphalt sq ft price usually include minimal grading or is that separate?

Here's a glimpse into the price.

$8.00 per square foot for the original stamp and coat process using standard patterns and colors.
$15.00 per square foot for the new durable Traffic Patterns XD that is an aggregate reinforced stamped thermoplastic using standard patterns and colors.

What are just regular asphalt prices (no stamping). I saw CTDS's link but they ones I saw were from other parts of the country.

It depends on your proximity to the nearest asphalt plant but based on your dimensions, it shouldn't cost more than about $4k (grading not included).

Figure $5,000 a day for the crew and $90 a ton for the mix. Get the length and width of your area, divide by 9, and multiply that by .11 for a 2" lift.
