    Default Same deer just older?

I bought some property in July of 2015. On the web page advertising it was this deer. Unsure of the date of the picture but it had to be in 2014 or earlier since the property wasn't hunted or scouted January-July 2015.

So, let's call it September 2014.

    I found this yesterday.

    15780703_10154892670624766_4646053635437671763_n.jpg15780796_10154891532609766_2942231999766060077_n.jpg

Sure looks like the same deer. Bottom jaw was missing but the upper four rear teeth are black.

Is it the same deer just older and his antlers didn't get any bigger? They came in the same for the past two years or slightly declined in length?

Next question, what can I put on them to bring the color back? Shoe polish?

Yes that is the same deer.

Do not have any ideas on bringing the color back, but you could get it dipped.

My thought as well. He reached his prime in 2014.

No idea how he died. I hope old age.

    Nice one for Florida.

Same deer, actually looks like the same rack he had in the trail cam pics. Wonder if he was shot and not found.

Same deer for sure. Rack looks very similar. But no way that rack sat for 2 years without the squirrels gnawing on it. Unless it was in the water or something.

I had some doggers pull up to the gate one morning asking if they could let their blood dogs run to find a deer they shot. If this was that deer then he ran over a mile, across a two lane highway, through a swamp, 1/2 way through my land, and into the pines.

Maybe it is. All they said is it was a big deer. Their dogs couldn't track the deer they were after.

I don't think this skull is over two months old. No gnaw marks on it back of the rack still has color on it too.

I'd agree. Was assuming the comment "same deer same year" meant that this rack was from 2014

Same deer but a mystery for sure timeline wise.. It would be odd to throw the exact same rack and upon zooming that is the exact same rack no doubt. I have found sheds that were not chewed and were certainly not last years so would opt for it dying not long after the picture was taken. Looks like you have some excellent genetics..

Went with shoe polish cut with some water.

Looks good enough for me. Doubt I'll put anymore time into it.

An old man I was speaking to said that if antlers are attached to a skull squirrels won't touch them. Ever heard of this?
