    Default Cheap spotting scope?

I need one for punching paper, don't wanna spend a lot on it. Cabelas has these two on sale and then there's a Barska that's in my range also. What are the pros/cons of straight vs angled? Don't wanna spend more than $150

For the prices listed, I'd go with the 1st one since you said "cheap".

I had a Barska once. It was HORRIBLE. You had to have your eye PERFECTLY placed in order to see anything. I ended up returning it or selling it...or something. I don't even remember. It's been years ago. Hell...they may have improved. But, again, for the price, the first one looks like a win.

For your stated use, I'd probably go with the Simmons at that price, even though the Celestron is a better quality scope.

The $ savings with the Simmons will leave you some room to think about a "Digiscope Adapter" to attach a small camera to if you have one. I used to take a fair number of longer range pictures with my little Sony camera and Leupy spotting scope. You may also want to look at a decent table top tripod.

I bought a Redfield and it is great for the money, think I spent about 225 or so.

You'd be better off with that budget just buying a better scope. I just bought a spotter after trying to go the cheap route I just couldn't get any confidence that I wasn't going to be stuck with a hunk of shit. Ended up buying a 60mm Kowa body and a 20X60 eyepiece.

I went with the Simmons. Already have a tripod. Hell, the case the Simmons is in looks to be worth half the purchase price......

    Got a pic? Curious.

EDIT -- nevermind. Just saw the other picture of the case on the link. Looks pretty stout.

Thanks, but the site answered my question. And FEETS clarified it even more. Looks nice. How's eye relief? Is horizontal/vertical relief somewhat forgiving?

Used the Simmons spotting scope last week and it did everything I needed it to do. Great deal for the money in my opinion. If you are looking for a spotting scope to use less than 300 yards or so this will do everything you need.

Why not Minox? From what I understand, their MD 50 W 16-30 is no worse than some of the more expensive scopes. In fact, it is one of the best ones I can think of.
