This simple fix has turned into a cluster fuck. The dickheads that did the siding didn't start the first course on this section with a full piece of siding. They cut a couple of inches off of the bottom piece, which is probably why they used J channel instead of a starter strip. Only think I can figure is to use and inverted piece of drip molding, tuck the cut edge into that and silicone it so water doesn't get inside and run behind the siding like it did with the J channel.

    Dang.

Is that a big wall? Would it be expensive to just start fresh?

what else is on that wall? any windows?

If nothing but vinyl, tear the vinyl all the way off and buy one new piece to put at the bottom to get you started right. If it has any windows in it you will have to buy more than one new piece obviously.

Or, if you want to be cheap about it just drill some holes in the bottom front edge of the J channel that was already there to let water drain out (not really what I would recommend doing but it would probably help your problem).

They might have cut it to line the profiles up.
Your biggest problem is no house wrap, flashing, and j channel run horizontal has to have weep holes.

What am I looking at? counter levered upper story with a porch addition?
Looks like the porch was added or enclosed later?

House is wrapped and flashed, deck roof was not. Windows all kinds of shit on that big ass wall. If I start with a new course, the rest of the siding will not line up. Thinking my options are like I mentioned above, or putting J channel back on with weep holes.

I would try to remove that bottom horizontal J-channel that's back flowing into the corner and reinstall it with a downhill slope away from the corner. Like Charlie said, it could use some weep holes in it, also.

He's prolly got some Brass Ankles that migrated North up that way. Don't think they like to work though.

Now you know those poor kids were just trying to make a dollar to send home on a Friday afternoon.

While whitey was sitting in the truck yelling instructions out the window.....that they couldn't understand.

    Don't be mad.

Yea that picture helps even more. I may would bore a bunch of hole in the J and put it back.

Also as mentioned above, you could pop a chalk line with the right hand side a touch lower to let gravity help.

Hate its turned into a mess

Wound up inverting a piece of drip rail or trim, what ever its called, tucked the cut edge inside and will run a bead of caulk to keep water out. Should be better than the J chanel they had. Rotted out the plywood and header on the side of the porch roof.
