    Default Siding J chanel

The J channel on this section of my siding obviously wasn't installed correctly. Water has been running down the siding, into the J chanel then behind the siding rotting the wood. What is the proper way this J chanel should have been installed. Should the bottom piece have been notched into the side piece?.

On second look, why is the j channel over what looks to be the fascia? Looks like metal and then j channel and siding on top

If it is how I explained in my second post, the j channel could be removed and a starter strip placed there instead.

I pulled the other piece of siding off of the to get a better look at that corner. When phone charges I will take a better pic of the way the corner was flashed. The house is wrapped, the roof on pack porch is not.

I think that would solve the problem. Water is running down the bottom J channel than back to the left and draining out behind the siding.

I don't know shit about vinyl siding. Is a starter strip just the first piece of siding, or is it a specific piece like a J channel or H channel?

You would end up with this instead of that piece of j channel.

That way the water can just run down the siding and off to the ground

take out j channel and lay you siding back flat. Pop you a chalk line even with the bottom of the siding and the nail up the bottom of the starter strip along the chalk line.

Normally I install starter strip with a 4' level but since the siding is already up, you prolly need to just go with what you have. If you installed strip level and the siding isn't level you'd have to reside that whole wall
