dats a lot of sand.
dats a lot of sand.
damn. that's a lot of sand.
Father in law went down there Sunday. There house is in Fishing Creek and currently for sale. Yard was a mess but no trees down. Will be headed down there next weekend to clean up the rest. He sold his house on the second row a couple years ago. Glad we don't have to deal with that. Feel for the ones that do.
Headed down this AM to how the house fared. Hoping the worst will be cleaning out the freezers. I'll try to take pictures of what I can.
Not letting all the property owners down there at this point is fucking ridiculous. Close off roads if you have to, and those affected can park and walk. If the issue is access (trees down), guess who's got more motivation and chainsaws than the bureaucrats restricting access?
Don't try and weasel your way in unless you have proof of ownership on the specified street they're allowing in. National guard/police are running a tight checkpoint at the Edistonian. Wouldn't be a problem to put your boat in at Live Oak and ride to your dock if you're on the creek though.
The sand intrusion looked to be pretty well limited to the first 1/4 to 1/2 mile of Palmetto. A few big trees were down on Jungle Road, but most houses looked fine short of live oak leaves and palmetto fronds everywhere. We lost a gutter and a few shingles. National guard had a person posted on every road, so we couldn't even get a look toward the beach.

My wife's uncle check the house on Scotts Creek today. For the most part everything was in good shape. Lost a few shingles a garage door and a the screen on the porch. Said the best he could tell water was less than 6" under the house.
Is still closed...
You can fly in and check on your stuff.
I got here yesterday evening. Power is back on here at palmetto Rd (not Blvd) I'm going to town hall to help cook lunch for all the National Guard and others trying to get this place accessible again. If you are not on a the list of people granted access or if your street is not on the list for that day you will be turned around. I have been told to go straight to town hall and to not even stop anywhere else.
What is still not accessible? Edisto just isn't that big. It's now day four and a lot of property owners still can't assess their property. Not to mention that it is the property owners who historically get the lion's share of the work/clean up done. They are acting like we are unable to fend for ourselves. A LOT of people are getting pissed and this won't be forgotten.
Praying for all who have been affected by the storm.
