    Default Doing the right thing

In my mind anyway. I have never killed a deer with a bow, I have a set up and its dialed in and this little fella is under my stand 8 times a day - every day. Acts likes he is starving and feeds there for 45 minutes, this crazy bastard eats at 12 noon and 99 degrees. He would be a broadside 15 yard shot but I can't bring myself to kill him at this size even as my "first bow kill". He will make it thru the season in this spot unless he decides to move away. I will take him next year and will wait for something bigger.

An 86 year old bow hunter told me one time "shoot the first 5 legal animals you can, nothing can replicate the experience and knowledge that will be learned".

Shoot that deer Rick. 3 years from now when the swamp donkey walks in on your big and beasty plot you will be glad you skewered that little guy.

I would not shoot it either. I shot a 6-7 does with my bow before I shot a buck, still nearly puked all over myself

3 years from now that deer could be the swamp donkey but not if he's stuck today.

Your doing the right thing. If he didn't get your adrenaline pumping the first time you saw him then you'll regret shooting him.

I've been after my first bow kill for 5 years now, only hunting the first couple weeks before rifle. I have lost 2 deer. 1st, she crawled into the swamp and we lost the trail after a rain. 2nd, my bow string caught the bino clip on my safety harness. Video looked like just a flesh wound, but both still haunt me.

There is a lot than can go wrong and experience helps a lot. I would take the very first clean shot I had on him and not regret it for a second.

I got lucky and killed my first bow buck on opening day when I was 12 and have killed and lost quite a few since then. It's definitely a learning experience and will test your patience, I've been bowhunting for 10 years now (I'm 22) and have been fortunate enough to kill some really nice deer with a bow.

Stick with it and shoot the first legal deer you get a good shot at, there is nothing like killing them with a bow.

if you are going to shoot that buck next year then just shoot him now. He might be a 13" 140lb 7 point next year. Gain the experience of getting drawn, making the shot, finding the arrow, trailing the blood, etc......or wait on a doe. Screw Stan potts and the qdma.

    shoot what makes you happy.

qdma'ers have sucked the fun out of shooting stuff.

I'd air that little feller out and eat him.

My first deer with a bow looked just like that. But do whatever you like.

That deer needs a leveling kit. Looks like he is running downhill.

Shoot him, and eat him. Have fun with it.

The best thing thats happened to me is my oldest son getting jacked about hunting.

Spikes, cowhorns four points beware. We get jacked about a buck!!

Have you drawn on him while in the stand?

Try that a few times, you may learn a thing or two just by drawing on him and never slinging an arrow at him
