Thanks to KRT and his minions over at A2Z, my pickup got some new life this week.
These 5.4L Fords are known for their issues with their cam phasors and such. At 180k miles, mine took a dump.
To make a long story short, my motor was toast. Kevin probably could've repaired it, but I'd still have a 180k mile pickup with a couple thousand dollars in repairs.
Together, we decided to go the crate motor route. He hooked me up with new accessories where needed, serviced both differentials, tranny, transfer case, flushed the coolant system, and had his guys thoroughly go through this truck.
I picked it up last night. It's like a different truck.
It wasn't cheap, but neither are new trucks. The fact of the matter is this: I can either pay a dealership to do it, or I can support a friend as he tries to make a living. I chose the latter.
If you need mechanical work on your car or truck and you live remotely close to the midlands, I recommend A2Z. I have always done all of my own work and will do so in the future. But, while I'm in limbo on the workshop situation or for jobs that I don't have the time or talent to tackle, I'll entrust A2Z to do what I can't do at the moment.
Thanks for the help, Kevin.
We'll see how long it takes for that clean to wear off.
Here's to her next 180k miles....
