The flag should never have been there in the first place and at best should have only been flown for one year beginning in 1961.

The whole issue of the flag taking on racial connotations had it's foundation dug by the KKK and it was cemented by politicians in the several southern states. The SC General Assembly's concurrent resolution, H. 2261, flew in the face of civil rights issues of that time and place and, along with the other state legislatures who over time had flown or made the confederate battle flag a part of their respective state flags, created the monster we have today and in so doing removed any semblance of heritage and replaced it with a symbol of defiance.
