    Default Slept in

Got up at 7. Made coffee, gave the chickens some corn and water. Fed the dogs. Slipped down to the creek behind my house and tossed out my new corks. Was able to get hid by 8. Not 10 minutes later had a pair of mallards come and try to sit next to my decoys. Shot the hen first, killed her stone dead, then two more shots and sailed the drake into the woods. Looked for about an hour but no luck.

Got to figure a way to get some food in there for next season.

Man and other animals were first vegetarians; then Noah and his sons were given permission to eat meat: “every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you” Genesis 9:3

Thanks it's my Dad's gun. Made the year I was born. Only ever had a problem with it this year where the safety stuck half way and wouldn't let me shoot.

So what is the point of a hen around without the drake to breed her?

One drake can only service so many hens per day.

Not that you need any advice from me, but...its the internet and I have to give my .02cents

rule #1 with multiple birds, shoot the far birds first. Always.

That's really good advice but sometimes it's easy to get caught up in the moment.

yep. just trying to impart a little bit of advice for others future reference.
everytime a group of birds heads my way, that is the only thing I think about...kill the tough shot first, then take your time with the chip shots. works wonders, and doubles and triples become common.

I'm just jealous he shot a mallard, its been 3 years for me.

I would rather kill one greenhead than a pair of pintails at this point of my life!
