It was a three dog night, and I ain't got but one dog, me and him both damn near froze.
Hahahaha David!!! I tried to find pics with SCDuckers in them. Everybody enjoys a little Internet fame every once in a while! LOL. We had some good times down there whether we killed piles of ducks or not!!
As a matter of fact I was just telling a story about our adventure with the guide on Catahoula today in one of the Reelfoot Lake threads! Now THAT was an adventure!! It even had a bright ending thanks to some of the terrible mean locals that loaned us a boat!! Hahaha
Living in Moncks Corner but looking forward to moving back to the West Coast in 2020 where there are more ducks and less duck hunters!! LOL
Yes the locals are mean as hell. RK remember Duke Davis? That fucker was a trip!!
RK, I have enjoyed your posts over the years and also read about some near misses with low freeboard boats. I swore I would never own another boat I could not stand up in a piss out of and i found a great compromise between the pirouge and the kayak in the Native Ultimate. I traded for it as I probably would have never bought one, but now really enjoy it. MG

Ive got a native as well as a marsh rat, but there are times whrn i think pirogue would be better

Being a kayak junkie like I am I have tried both the Native Ultimate and the Wilderness Systems Commander (very similar boat). They are great boats and are much more stable than a pirogue. However, as Phoneman mentioned, in super shallow water a true pirogue will still be the superior craft. They'll go shallow and pole over flat mud and grass with much less effort. Pirogues are also lighter weight unless you're lucky enough to find a Native Ultimate UL145. It was a fiberglass model that weighs about 50lbs.

RK - Have you used a Chapman with the Spud holes? If so what are your thoughts. My family is giving me a cottonmouth for Christmas and I have not been able to decide about the spuds.
Thanks
BD
great read and great photos
I see a few familiar faces and trucks in those pics...there were definitely some dead creatures toted in that regular cab blue Z71..great pics Matt !
I've never used one with the spud holes. I imagine it would work great to hold you in place when in hunting deep water but that kind of defeats the purpose of using the pirogue. The other issue I'd have was the need of carrying spud poles. You want as little gear as possible in the boat with you. I guess if you're buying a new one it might be nice to have the option just in case you ever need it, but its definitely not a necessity.
Those are some great shots Scott! I always wish I would take more hunting pics and not just limit myself to hero shots.
