    I really dunno...

The 4' one I had in the Scout I cut a 2.5" barb off of. It wasn't a cownose.

You should have been wearing your stingray boots and gloves. I never go near the water without mine.

The only good stingray is a dead one. Taurus has a special version of the Judge made for killing stingrays.

I'm not scared of stingrays but I respect them.

It's not just the toxin (which often produces necrosis at the site) but also all the bacteria on the barb.

I'd bet you'll need a good cleaning and debridement.

This is a good outline of what to expect:

Them CooNas folks taught me to cut the tail off as soon as you get the ray in the boat. I actually caught one while I was down there that didn't have a tail.

Another thing them CooNas folks taught me. Respect the saltwater catfish!
I grew up catching catfish and getting them off my hook. They warned me and I thought I had everything under control everytime I caught one. Well one day we were fishing in the LA marsh and we were tearing the trout up. I hooked a catfish and reached down to remove him and that sucker shifted right when I put my hand on him, drove his gill spur right in the center of my hand. Those gill spurs have barbs so it was ugly. Saltwater bacteria direct injection. Took 3 months to heal. From then on I did as they did, cut the hook!

Yeah and hurt like a bitch, only thing you can do to ease the pain is put the area where you where stung in warm to hot water and the pain will go away instantly. Pull it out and the pain will come back as quick as a light turns on when flipping a switch.

I had the exact same sting wound. I was surf fishing at Hilton head. We were at least 100 yards out and I hooked a real little stingray. It was barely hooked and I tried to jiggle it off the line so as not to have to walk all the way back in and then back out. It twisted up and nailed me in the wrist....By the time I walked back in I was sweaty and woozy and the damn little sting hurt like the very devil....that's when the fun started. Mom gave me several huge Ibuprofen and that's when we found out I was allergic to IBU. 24 hours later and a trip to ER I was fishing again.

Same thing here years ago, damn saltwater catfish are HELL

We catch a lot of rays, big and small, when fishing the rocks. Got PLENTY OF HOOKS, I just cut the line

Had a friend strand he and his family the other day on a large bar with no provisions.
I hauled him a cooler of food and drinks but had to wade up to him.
I kew that soft sand would be covered with em so I was kicking and sliding the whole way.
On the way off I almost stepped on a good one but saw his tail just in time.
I handle them with caution for sure when on the hook but as a boy put some true giants on the deck before and once removed a 9" barb from one many years ago.

No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

Yep...just much closer to the body so you are less likely to get popped by one...

2th, you'd be alright if you kept to that freshwater you got up there...

I stepped on one my senior year in high school. No joke the worst pain I had ever been in. Hobbled back to the hotel room and filled the bath up with as hot of water as I could stand. Passed out 10 min later.
