Default a little more advice, please...

I've narrowed the problem with my Johnson 30 down to a head cover gasket. I've found the part online and I really want to fix it myself, but I have a couple of concerns:

    1) Are there any torque values/ sequence (thanks Tater) for the head cover bolts?

    2) Are there any parts located behind the cover and/ or gasket that will become a projectile never to be seen again upon removal of said cover/gasket?

I know these may seem like silly concerns, but I've learned that nothing is as simple as it seems on the direct spawn of Satan known as a boat motor. Thanks in advance for any helpful advice .

Get a service manual, it will give you step by step instruction. I have a clymer manual for my Yamaha its decent. IIRC it was $30.
