My grampa taught me, I'm sure. Everything he did when it came to fishing was right. No bones about it, he was the fish-catchingest SOB I have ever met.

and, to think, other people put a cricket on a hook THE WRONG WAY. I didn't know it was possible...

Funny. My daughter and I had this very conversation last night while sitting in the canoe. She didn't care how we hooked 'em as long as I did it....

2th, my grandfather was the same as yours.
His way was the right way no questions asked.

IMHO, you can run it through his head or his ass and as long as it goes the length of his body.
Do ya'll use one cricket or two.
In my family two crickets was the way to go. One would draw the bait theives in but two will bring the bulls from the bottom.

Hungry fish will eat one any way.

The real test is consistantly catching them when you release them back in a small pond. They will not accept bullshit.

You start at the rear end and come up short of the head but bring the hook out on the bottom side of the cricket.....but favoring one side. Most of the shank will be hidden and the point and barb will look like a front leg.

I hook my crickets just behind the head and come out of the rear!! That is how I was taught by my Grandfather, and his was a fish catching SOG!! He also taught me to use two crickets, he said that it would hide the hook better. Something must have been right about the way he taught me, because we caught plenty of fish together and I still use this method and still catch fish from time to time.

This brought up some good memories fish with my "Poppa".

It didn't matter, they just weren't bitin' for me and the boy. He sure did have a big smile on his face though. Thanks again! It made my day that his day was fun!

i was taught to put the hook through their chest where it makes like a little pentagon shape or something and i just loop em on like that, caught TONS of bream that way with my grandpa, used to be as soon as the cork hit the water it was going under, i miss that need to try and go with him again soon

Old-timer method. Run the hook just under the neck "collar" and back out being careful not to get it into the body so he stays alive. Then slide cricket up the shank and bury the barb in his butt. No hook point is visible. Hardly ever comes off.

It's all relative. If I put my face one inch from the computer monitor, it looks like a 60 inch flat screen.
